Think Good, It’s Friday! 9.11.15

One of my favorite things to do with my free time is curl up with a good book. With a cooler, fall-like weekend in the forecast, I have my reading list ready thanks to Parade Magazine. They recently featured three new books focused on happiness and creating positive change in the world. Everyone has their own unique approach to making our communities a better place—no matter the action, what you do matters.

• Sit, Stay, Read Chicago aims to tackle childhood literacy in a fun way by bringing dogs to schools throughout Chicago and having the students read to the dogs. Ten Chicago elementary schools are being visited by these puppies as the school year begins to encourage a love for reading and learning.
• Good Grapes, a wine shop in downtown Winnetka, is hosting an art contest to benefit homeless women at Deborah’s Place (via Winnetka Talk).
• Options for Youth provides a roadmap for young moms to keep them on track, through one-on-one meetings and guidance (via WGN-TV).
• Volunteers from Blue1647 spend their Saturday mornings with students, teaching S.T.E.M. skills (via NBC5 Chicago).
