Krista Atkinson has two passions. She has had a special bond with the elderly from a young age. As a young girl, she often visited her grandmother in a nursing home and developed relationships with other residents there—continuing to visit these “old” friends long after her grandmother passed away. Krista is also a stand-up comic and loves to perform.

On this episode of “Volunteer: Stories of Philanthropy,” reporter Christopher Johnson stops by Chicagoland Methodist Senior Services to visit with Krista and experience the all-volunteer variety show she helped create for the residents. In the past, she has arranged magicians, jugglers, hula-hoopers, comedy acts and even improve. Performing for these seniors brings her two passions together and helps create special moments of joy for a community that is often overlooked and forgotten.
