Our Commitment to Equity

Today’s Supreme Court Decision eliminating race as a factor in college admissions is deeply disappointing as it narrows the doors of opportunity for millions of Americans of color who have the promise but lack the privilege of access. This ruling is a loss for all of us – the potential peers who may never know their brilliance, the business community, whose bottom line has been shown to benefit from a diversity of experience and thought, and society at large. The racial and ethnic wealth gap exists as a result of centuries of policies and systems that restricted opportunity.   This decision seeks to take away an effective tool that recognized this history and is a step backwards. The Trust remains steadfast in our commitment to the important work of ensuring all Chicagoans can prosper and thrive.
