A locally owned vacant lot development anchored in the concept of Liberation: a place to gather, replenish, learn and create. This will be in the form of a phased development of an open-plan commercial building that will be informed and programmed based on resident input based on years of local community engagement. Additionally, the lot will be one of the few projects in the country that use Regulation Crowdfunding hyper-locally to sell shares of equity ownership to non-accredited residents, treating them as owners and investors in the property. We plan to use this project as a proof of concept and build a replicable model for new ways of financing and building real estate in disinvested neighborhoods. We've been selected as Neighborhood Opportunity Fund finalists, which has allowed us to begin moving forward with the process. Support from the Chicago Community Trust would allow us to develop the lot and conduct the regulation crowdfunding while thoroughly documenting the journey and pain points to be resolved for future projects of this kind.
