For more than 100 years, The Chicago Community Trust has convened, supported, funded, and accelerated the work of community members and changemakers committed to strengthening the Chicago region. From building up our civic infrastructure to spearheading our response to the Great Recession, the Trust has brought our community together to face pressing challenges and seize our greatest opportunities. Today, that means confronting the racial and ethnic wealth gap.

    AUSTIN COMING TOGETHER

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $70,000

    Austin Coming Together (ACT) works with our 50+ member network and dozens of on-the-ground partners to carry out hyperlocal community-based engagement, building awareness and access to the vaccine for Austin residents. Since ACT began in 2010, we have grown to become the backbone support for Austin’s social service infrastructure, always focused on understanding community needs. We recently developed a response and recovery strategy that draws from our experience in identifying core issues and facilitating solutions through collaboration. We have operationalized a plan for advocacy, communication, resource development, and resource deployment. With this project, we will be able to expand our impact to more Austin residents.

    CLARETIAN ASSOCIATES INC

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $225,000

    Since 1991, Claretian Associates has remained dedicated in its mission of responding to the needs of South Chicago and surrounding communities by providing affordable housing and vital services that benefit the safety and wellbeing of residents and families. With the arrival of COVID-19 followed shortly by racial unrest, South Chicago, a community already heavy with critical needs became inundated with people needing housing, rental assistance, and food security. In response, Claretian Associates did what it does best; organized, fundraised, and met the needs of the community through a trauma-informed lens. This grant request will assist in improving the well-being of the over 5000 residents who receive services from Claretian annually.

    Resurrection Project

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $70,000

    TRP respectfully requests support for its comprehensive homeownership program, Full Circle Homes (FCH). FCH provides prospective homeowners the tools and support they need to qualify, find, and responsibly buy a home, while offering post-purchase services to ensure owners remain in their homes for the long-term. FCH leverages TRP’s decades of homebuyer preparation experience with lending and realty services. TRP is a trusted provider of bilingual, culturally inclusive services tailored to meet the needs of Chicago’s Latinx community and immigrant households. As a voice for increasing access to homeownership, TRP also advocates for systems and practice change, while bringing innovative housing models, including modular homes, to the market.

    River City Community Development Center

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $150,000

    A place-based organization in West Humboldt Park, R CITY seeks to build a path from kindergarten to career, engaging the whole family in their children's success. The path begins with trauma-informed youth programs for ages 4-14 that provide safe spaces and social-emotional learning. As youth age, the path expands into employment, providing income-earning opportunities for ages 12-18. Facing the challenge of work, "Citybuilders" apprentices tuckpoint the homes of local low-income seniors in a six-year tiered program that increases responsibilities as apprentices grow. Since high school graduation is a key pivot point, R CITY provides scholarship funds and young adult internships through age 24, helping graduates reach their career goals.

    YOUNG INVINCIBLES

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $75,000

    Young Invincibles (YI) co-leads the Illinois Higher Education Network (IHEN) to create a more equitable higher education system. We address the impacts of institutionalized racism and classism on the success of Black and Latinx students, and students from low-income households. The coalition consists of advocacy organizations, college access and success organizations, college and university faculty and staff, and students. Working with these stakeholders, YI builds momentum for policies to create fair institutional funding models, meet students’ basic needs, increase financial aid, and address student mental health in a culturally competent manner. YI also leads the Student Advocacy Board, IHEN’s student committee.

    HOME OF THE CHILD EL HOGAR DEL NINO

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $150,000

    Since 1972, El Hogar del Niño has proudly invested in developing our Pilsen community and the next generation of resilient leaders through our award-winning early learning programs and responsive family support services that promote stability & wellbeing so families can meet their full potential. Research supports what we know from nearly five decades of service: vulnerable families receive the strongest advantages from quality programs like ours - benefits that can improve life outcomes for generations. In partnership with the Trust, we will scale our impact to serve even more students experiencing trauma, open a Family Welcoming Center, and serve more families in need from a second location in McKinley Park.

    OAI INC

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $200,000

    OAI will provide intense supportive and career coaching services and post-completion placement support to up to 20 target population participants. Sixteen will be in Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and 4 in Advanced CNA Dementia Care specialty programs. OAI will provide tuition gap funding, first month childcare coverage and multiple supportive services as needed to move low-income BIPOC individuals into training-related livable wage employment. Vital supports including career readiness training will be delivered by a Career Coach/ Navigator with the leveraged support of multiple OAI personnel. A Business Account Executive will also be hired specifically to engage with employers and facilitate placement in livable-wage jobs.
