    Earth's Remedies

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Earth’s Remedies’ August activation is a series of events allowing Westside youth to connect with health & wellness opportunities, paid data advocacy opportunities, and other developmental resources within their neighborhood. The events will consist of rock climbing with 10- 15 youth, youth researchers engaging with the community at resource fairs, and community art and healing fair open to the public. The funds will be used to support the youth researchers, field experts, art activations, free resources, refreshments, and travel expenses at the following events: August 6th: Elevate w/ Earth’s Remedies (Monthly - Rock Climbing w/ Youth) August 19th: Youth Leaders - Development w/o Displacement Resource Event w/ NHS August 20th: The Culture of Healing Fair (Back 2 School – Annual Resource Fair)

    Archi-Treasures Association

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Architreasures is partnering with the Altgeld Gardens/ Murray Homes Alumni group to train 15 youth participants as dancers and drummers for the AG All Stars performance troupe. The AG All Stars troupe is meeting Mon-Fri from 4-8 pm to practice a dance and drum routine that they will be performing as part of the Annual Altgeld Old Timers Parade, Back-to-School supply giveaway event, and family reunion barbecue that is taking place on Sun 8/20. The AG All Stars includes dancers age 5-22 and drummers age 15-22. Through the group workshops, participants have a safe space for self-expression, healing, mentorship, and peer support, while learning the discipline and team work required for group performances. The additional funds will be used to support new troupe uniforms and drum sets, stipends for two lead instructors, as well as costs related to the Altgeld Parade/ Back-to-School/ Family Reunion community event including food/drinks for the barbecue and school supplies for the giveaway. An estimated 500 people will be attending the community event.

    Invisible Book Bag Inc

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Our programs, including SEL, P.A.T.T.S, and Trauma Awareness, are aligned with the Seven Field Principles (7FP) model, an evidence-based framework that has proven successful in building strong communities and reducing violence. We are seeking to continue these programs during the gap period of July 28 to August 21, 2023, utilizing our existing programming and staff.

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Root2fruit Youth Foundation is applying for the opportunity to extend youth and community activation throughout the Labor day weekend. Providing intergenerational safe spaces in the Austin community. We would like to provide activation in the gap spaces between the ending of summer camp and the start of the CPS school year.

    Gage Park Latinx Council

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $3,500

    The Gage Park Latinx Council will host two youth spaces over the labor day weekend at our two community centers in the Gage Park neighborhood. The first will take place on September 1 at 2711 W. 51st Street and will be geared toward teens ages 15-17 years old and led by the Teen members of our youth council. This event will be a space for teens to hang out and engage in art-making activities while celebrating labor day in the safety of our cultural center on a day, Friday, which is usually the most dangerous time to be outside due to gun violence. Our second activation will be on September 2 at our second location at 53rd and Kedzie. It will be geared toward younger youth ages 9 - 14 with art and healing activities that will help young people have space to regulate emotions and be in a safe environment with their parents while observing the labor day weekend.

    Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    CCRx hosts a series of Creative Reuse workshops called “Imagination Station”. Two or more teaching artists guide participants in making a variety of projects that involve “reimagining” surplus materials into new things that they can personalize and use. Examples include Imagination Journals made from surplus paper, photos, wallpaper samples; Recyclo-Pouches made from vinyl street pole banners, Kaleidoscopes and Drums from cardboard tubes, and Masks from PPE and a host of other materials. Youth are empowered through problem-solving and self-expression. CCRx successfully ran 18 hours of workshops during the June Gap period and has continued to offer workshops throughout the summer with various organizations. For the August Gap period CCRx will provide more Creative Reuse workshops at various park districts near our warehouse (Auburn Gresham, Englewood, etc.) between August 6 and August 21. Each workshop will engage children, ages 5 to 12 and 13-18, and any accompanying adults. The events will be promoted by park district staff and through CCRx’s social media channels.
