Our plan for community activities and events will be held during the gap time between CPS ending and the Park District beginning (June 6-26). Our organization capacity to provide supports for children and youth during this time period consists of Taproots’ years of experience in successfully collaborating with various community organizations, schools, and representatives from the 11th and 15th Chicago Police Districts to plan community events and activities that create safe spaces and promote community peace, safety, cohesion, unity and resilience. This funding opportunity offers our organization the ability to expand our efforts in providing safe spaces and positive engagements for children and youth in our community during out of school time. The events will be comprised of outdoor/indoor activities that provide opportunities for youth to engage in positive, fun, safe, enriching and engaging activities that include visual and performing arts, sports, games, music and more. Taproots will partner and collaborate with other community based organizations along, with the 11th District police, in providing these opportunities for children and youth. Namely, we will organize three events that will be comprised of activities held on three separate days and will involve both male and female children and youth including: 1. Peaceful Hoops Skilz Challenge, Games, Fun and More; 2. Peaceful Poetry, Paint and Music in the Garden; 3. Youth in the Community “Speak Life” Open Mic & Recognition Celebration.

Driven to Inspire (DTI) intends to conduct a series of sporting and engagement activities in the month of June to occupy and build relationships with the community youth of North Lawndale, West Garfield, and Austin. During the June "break", DTI will hold a basketball tournament, a softball day, and will support a roller skating fun day to engage a total of 100 kids between the ages of 8 - 22, over the period. DTI has experience running these types of events through the combined efforts of its staff as well through established partnerships with other community actors. DTI has already secured locations for the events and developed necessary partnerships with actors who have run these events for years, but without financing. DTI has a proven methodology to execute the events and is only missing proper funding. DTI will utilize neighborhood canvassing, social media, and communication with local churches to recruit youth. DTI will organize and execute the events, recruit and transport youth, feed the youth and purchase any necessary equipment to execute the events.
