Since 2020, OAI has addressed the critical issue of maintaining green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) to reduce urban flooding, prevent pollution from entering Chicago’s rivers, and alleviate the impacts of neighborhood flooding. This program successfully partners with municipalities and landowners, restores neglected GSI, implements maintenance plans for new sites and trains incumbent workers. Building on past success, this program is positioned to grow by building capacity for expanded workforce development, and improving our collective understanding of GSI site performance through monitoring. Funding from CCT will support existing activities and build capacity for program expansion to take this program to the next level.
