The underrepresentation and misrepresentation of people of color in the media particularly for boys and young men of color (BYMOC) are persisting problems threatening our efforts for equity and social justice. Through the generous support of CCT, Public Narrative has begun to cultivate a network of BYMOC and other allies committed to leading social justice efforts in their communities through media engagement. Public Narrative seeks $165,000 to implement a twofold expansion of its narrative change framework: 1. Public Narrative will leverage research to illustrate the prevailing narratives about people of color and marginalized groups across Chicago’s 77 communities to uproot and dismantle oppressive narratives; 2. The organization will be integrating its interventions across the public health, public safety, and public education sectors to take a comprehensive approach to advancing equity and narrative change for BYMOC across Chicago.
