Vacancy to Vibrancy will develop a neighborhood scale Community Investment Vehicle (CIV) in the mid-South Side of Chicago that centers the equity participation of local and Black residents and businesses through ownership, governance, and engagement at all stages of planning. The development process of the CIV will include a neighborhood real estate assessment, a socio-cultural-economic neighborhood assessment, financial modeling, neighbor and investor engagement, and an inclusive economic development and impact assessment. The process will include the examination of the vacant land and underutilized civic assets for repurposing. The engagement, planning, and execution processes developed through this initiative will be documented to serve as a model that is scalable and transferable to similar communities within Chicago and beyond.

For over 30 years, Real Men Charities, Inc. (RMC) has been a force and advocate for minority males (particularly African Americans) to help debunk the myth that men are not standing up for their families, our children, and communities. Real Men Charities, Inc. has presented many community forums to support father engagement, restorative justice, health and wellness, and Peace & Possibility pavilions and discussions. Additionally, it runs and operates the Quarry Event Center of Chicago to bring arts and live entertainment to the communities we serve. Additionally, RMC designs, edits, and publishes The South Side Drive magazine, which reaches over 34,000 people through its distributorship. The organization’s mission is Building Healthy Families & Communities. The magazine is designed to be a catalyst for economic development, reflecting a truthful image and examples that demonstrate the art of living. We seek to share the good news about Chicago’s south side and Black culture while serving as the "Guide to the Good Life" in our city. We are 'keepers of the culture' by presenting the voices of the people who are often disenfranchised, marginalized, and undervalued. This magazine captures the essence of the beauty of Black culture, business, health, and lifestyles. RMC seeks a grant award to build capacity, circulation, and a strong digital platform.

Per Scholas advances economic equity through rigorous tech training and connections to local employers. We prepare individuals traditionally underrepresented in tech—women, people of color, and those with at most a high school diploma—for high-growth careers in the industry, and place them on a path to achieving a thriving wage salary. We respectfully request a $200,000 Bridges to Brighter Futures grant in support of our work to provide technology training to individuals from the City of Chicago and surrounding counties over a 12-month period, leading to middle-skills employment and thriving-wage careers in tech.
