Neighborhood Fun for ALL. The 1000 and 1100 blocks of N Monticello are excited to present Neighborhood Fun for All on Saturday, June 10 and Saturday, June 24. We are kicking off the summer by bringing back community, fun, food and laughter for our neighbors of all ages. We will begin by hosting a Block Club Party on Saturday, June 10th, beginning at 12pm complete with a gaming truck, bouncy house, DJ, food trucks, cotton candy and piñatas! Once the sun goes down, we will transition the day into a family movie night in the garden. Men Making a Difference (MMAD) will host a June youth Breakfast series. Each Saturday morning in the month of June from 9:00 am- 1:00 pm, we will bring together the youth of North Lawndale and their families for a free breakfast cooked by local community members with food obtained from community businesses. After breakfast and fellowship, we will engage youth in peace circles. The peacemaking circle is a process that will bring together the youth of our community to engage in conflict resolution, healing, support, decision making and other activities in which honest communications, relationship development, and community building are centered. After peace circles, leftovers will be given out, to provide further sustenance to youth and their family after the event.

With this funding we intend to engage neighbors of West Garfield Park the week of June 13th-17th. This will consist of Community Engagement from 3:00-5:30pm and Community Sports from 5:30-8:00pm Tuesday through Friday. Community Engagement will consist of our Leaders in Training (16-19 year old students) canvassing door to door for a Litter Free Campaign in which signatures will be gathered for a pledge to not litter and to pick up a minimum of 7 pieces of trash weekly. At the same time, elders from the community will be asked to be interviewed to share their life stories. This will facilitate cross generational relationships and learning. Community Sports will consist of adult volunteers and our Leaders In Training running sports for younger children 5th-8th grade (approximately 11-15 years old) at a community park. The week will conclude with a Juneteenth Block Party where the whole community will be invited.

Jesus Word Center Church was launched in 1986 in the Austin Community of Chicago, IL. The ministry started with seven members. Our congregation grows through our prison ministry to the Vienna Correctional Center of Ex-inmates, their families, and community members. After outgrowing our storefront location, we remained in the Austin community by sharing space with ST. Paul Lutheran Church. We have 325 members. Our congregation comprises 77 men, 127 women, 103 youth, and children. We have a mixture of college graduates, business owners, paraprofessionals, the health field, social workers, laborers, retirees, unemployed, and college students. Our Outreach ministries include a partnership with the Chicago Public School Safe Haven Program to keep our community students safe during the most violent hours of the day. A partnership with Playstreet and the city of Chicago, we block off the street 5 times during the summer months to allow children and their families to play and have social encounters with neighbors in a safe environment. Our organization will conduct a two-week summer camp with the following activities: chess, swimming, dance, mentoring, boxing, and two field trips. Our goal is to provide this camp for 25 at-risk youth in North Lawndale during the gap weeks in June

Remix Project's Open Mic & Studio Drop-ins take place Saturday evenings from 8pm-11pm at Zhou B Art Center. With the additional funding, Remix will add Monday, Wednesday & Friday evenings from 6pm-9pm throughout the month of June to assist in providing coverage during the gap. Safe space, mentorships and healthy networks are at the core of this effort. Youth and young adults will be invited to share their life experiences via music, spoken word and live performance. Premise being when young people have more options they make better decisions. Remix believes engaging at-risk youth through the summer months during peak times for violence creates a sense of belonging outside traditional neighborhood networks and helps guide young peoples' attention & decision making through the week with something positive forthcoming. In addition, participants will have access to a commercial grade recording studio and engineer on site for skills training, mixing & mastering.
