Our Grantmaking Strategy

For more than 100 years, The Chicago Community Trust has convened, supported, funded, and accelerated the work of community members and changemakers committed to strengthening the Chicago region. From building up our civic infrastructure to spearheading our response to the Great Recession, the Trust has brought our community together to face pressing challenges and seize our greatest opportunities. Today, that means confronting the racial and ethnic wealth gap.

For almost two years, LSNA has explored the concept of being a Palenque – a liberated territory that is part healing sanctuary and part a site for strategic action for a just and resilient recovery from an ongoing pandemic – that is organized around centering care and public policy that uplift Black, Brown, Indigenous, and immigrant life. This vision invites our leaders – mostly women, femmes, and young people – to live into their own power through transformative experiences like LSNA’s Parent Mentor Program, the Youth Leadership Institute, and the Changemakers leadership cohort. As we enter our 60th year, we are requesting $255,000 over the upcoming three years to more fully realize this vision into our work through: • Mentoring 90 new leaders (30 each year) • Continuing the LSNA La Cultura Cura Curriculum Collective, a series of trainings on topics related to LSNA’s vision of Palenque • Roll out a new name for the organization, a new mission, and a new logo, reflecting the Palenque vision • Expand LSNA’s institutional membership and engagement • Deepen and grow our fundraising base
