Providing Humanitarian Relief in the Middle East

There are no words that can express the horror, fear, and deep sadness that we are feeling after the recent attacks on Jewish people in Israel. These terrorist attacks were a brutal reminder of the importance of our unfinished work to root out antisemitism in all its forms. We seek to live in a world where hate has no place.  Yet, too often, we are reminded that the work to achieve this vision is precarious. The death of civilians in Gaza, along with incidents of antisemitism and Islamophobia in our backyard, compounds our heartbreak and makes the efforts of those working for peace more important than ever. 

If you are seeking ways to help those caught in the crisis, consider the following organizations providing humanitarian aid in the region:  

• American Friends of Magen David Adom: American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA) is the fundraising and advocacy organization in the United States supporting the lifesaving efforts of Magen David Adom (MDA). MDA provides disaster relief, ambulance, and blood services in Israel. 
• American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee: Working today in over 70 countries, JDC acts on behalf of North America’s Jewish communities and others to rescue Jews in danger, provide relief to those in distress, revitalize overseas Jewish communities, and help Israel overcome the social challenges of its most vulnerable citizens.
• Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund: Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), founded in 1991 by concerned people in the U.S., provides free medical care to thousands of injured and ill children yearly who lack local access to care within the local health care system.
• Oxfam-America: Oxfam is a global organization that fights inequality to end poverty and injustice.  The organization offers lifesaving support in times of crisis and advocates for economic justice, gender equality, and climate action.
