Arts Work Fund Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re seeking a grant from the fund, the following FAQ should answer many of your initial questions.

What makes a good proposal?
A clear and succinct description of the opportunity the project presents to enhance the effectiveness of your organization, the expected outcomes of your effort, and the method of assessing the project’s outcomes.

Does the Arts Work Fund award multi-year grants?
No. Grants are generally awarded for well-defined projects to be completed in one year or less. If your project involves numerous steps or is expected to take place over several years, you are welcome to apply for additional support after completion of the currently funding phase of your project.

Does the Arts Work Fund recommend consultants or management assistance organizations?
Selecting the right consultant can be among the most important decisions you will make concerning your project. Applicants to the Arts Work Fund are encouraged to solicit at least three bids from possible consultants prior to selecting the consultant.  A written agreement detailing the services to be performed, along with the fee schedule should be attached to the application.  While we don’t specifically recommend consultants, if you are having difficulty in identifying an appropriate consultant, contact us for assistance. Applications listing a current board member or family member as a consultant will be declined.

How much money should we request in our grant application?
An organization should ask for what it needs to successfully complete the project. Most grants will range between $3,000 and $10,000.  The Fund encourages grant applicants to demonstrate their commitment to the proposed capacity building effort by making some financial contribution to the project.

If I apply for an Arts Work Fund grant, can I still apply for a grant from the Fund’s funding partners?
Applying to or receiving a grant from the Arts Work Fund does not prohibit an organization from applying separately to funders who are members of the Arts Work Fund collaborative.
