Giving
The African American Legacy Initiative advances its dual goals of involving more African-Americans in philanthropy while supporting not-for-profit organizations that work to improve the quality of life in our communities through the generous contributions of our donors.
Whether continuing the generous work of a large family philanthropy or just starting a new legacy of giving, donors who seek to address needs in our African-American communities can find in the African American Legacy Initiative both the giving opportunities they seek and the expertise they need to make their contributions go further.
We launched a $6 million campaign in 2005 to seed the Legacy Fund. We plan to raise $3 million from individuals and the community and are receiving one-to-one matches from Chicago area corporations. Why not join us?
Donors can make their contributions to two types of funds:
- The Legacy Fund – Donors pool their resources in this endowment to leverage the impact of their charitable dollars on issues of common concern. Fund representatives solicit and review proposals and grants reflect community needs.
- Individual Funds – Families, groups and individuals establish individual funds and other tax efficient charitable giving vehicles.
You can discuss making a donation to the African American Legacy Initiative of The Chicago Community Trust by contacting Sejal Shah-Myers via e-mail or at 312.616.8000, ext. 183. Or you can contribute now through our online donation tool.
