Korean American Community Services

A 2011 grant from Nuestro Futuro has helped to expand the Parent Support component of its Early Childhood Center programs.

Rosario Malvaiz came to Korean American Community Services to enroll her twin children in the Early Childhood Center. After observing the classroom, she became motivated to volunteer.

Her interest in the education model at KACS inspired Rosario to take courses in early childhood education. When a position opened at the Center, this dedicated parent and professional was the perfect candidate for the job.

Rosario has continued school and is now qualified as a paraprofessional for children with disabilities. When her own son Logan developed signs of a speech impediment, she obtained a referral to the Chicago Public Schools for evaluation. Logan was eligible to receive speech therapy—and after a year of work, his speech is back on track and no longer requires therapy.
